aba19bc45f deprecated_err(): Stop bizarre warning messages when the tests
are run in the order:

test_genexps (or any other doctest-based test)
    test_struct
    test_doctest

The `warnings` module needs an advertised way to save/restore
its internal filter list.

a3f092751a ("Forward-port" of r46506)
Remove various dependencies on dictionary order in the standard library
tests, and one (clearly an oversight, potentially critical) in the
standard library itself - base64.py.

Remaining open issues:
 * test_extcall is an output test, messy to make robust
 * tarfile.py has a potential bug here, but I'm not familiar
enough with this code. Filed in as SF bug #1496501.
 * urllib2.HTTPPasswordMgr() returns a random result if there is more
than one matching root path. I'm asking python-dev for
   clarification...

f4ef11659c Need for speed: Patch #921466 : sys.path_importer_cache is now used to cache valid and
invalid file paths for the built-in import machinery which leads to
  fewer open calls on startup.

Also fix issue with PEP 302 style import hooks which lead to more open()
  calls than necessary.

02494764cb Explicitly close files. I'm trying to stop the frequent spurious test_tarfile
failures on Windows buildbots, but it's hard to know how since the regrtest
failure output is useless here, and it never fails when a buildbot slave runs
test_tarfile the second time in verbose mode.

005aee2c39 I like tests.
The new split functions use a preallocated list. Added tests which exceed
the preallocation size, to exercise list appends/resizes.

Also added more edge case tests.

2856e5f390 Support for buffer protocol for socket and struct.
* Added socket.recv_buf() and socket.recvfrom_buf() methods, that use the buffer

* Added struct.pack_to(), that is the corresponding buffer compatible method to
  unpack_from().

* Fixed minor typos in arraymodule.

696cf43b58 Heavily fiddled variant of patch #1442927: PyLong_FromString optimization.
``long(str, base)`` is now up to 6x faster for non-power-of-2 bases. The
largest speedup is for inputs with about 1000 decimal digits. Conversion
from non-power-of-2 bases remains quadratic-time in the number of input
digits (it was and remains linear-time for bases 2, 4, 8, 16 and 32).

Speedups at various lengths for decimal inputs, comparing 2.4.3 with
current trunk. Note that it's actually a bit slower for 1-digit strings:
