907e76b620 Fix up a few style nits -- avoid "e.g." and "i.e." -- these make
translation more difficult, as well as reading the English more
difficult for non-native speakers.

1aec3a16f3 Add versioning notes: many of the signatures changed to allow the time
used to be omitted (meaning use the current time) as of Python 2.1.
Users who need cross-version portability need to know things like this.

all cases. Adjust docs, add news item. Also convert all argument-handling to
METH_VARARGS. Closes SF patch #103265.

f8316638af Rob W. W. Hooft's spelling fixes for the Library Reference. I hope
SourceForge doesn't choke on this batch :-)

I'm not entirely sure this is 100% correct. The patch changes an
\index{persistency} to \index{presistence}, and I don't know what \index{}
does. But it seems to do so persi--er, consistently, so I hope it isn't a
problem.
