`test_init_load_non_utf8_path` and
`test_init_additional_workspace_non_utf8_path` now early-return on
strict UTF-8 filesystems because there's no way to report a test as
"skipped" at runtime.

5aa71d59a9 lib: replace MergedTreeId with MergedTree and Merge<TreeId>
After the previous commit, `MergedTree` and `MergedTreeId` are almost
identical, with the only difference being that `MergedTree` is attached
to a `Store` instance. `MergedTreeId` is also equivalent to
`Merge<TreeId>`, since it is just a wrapper around it.

In the future, `MergedTree` might contain additional metadata like
conflict labels. Therefore, I replaced `MergedTreeId` with `MergedTree`
wherever I think it would be required to pass this additional metadata,
or where the additional methods provided by `MergedTree` would be
useful. In any remaining places, I replaced it with `Merge<TreeId>`.

I also renamed some of the `tree_id()` methods to `tree_ids()` for
consistency, since now they return a merge of individual tree IDs
instead of a single "merged tree ID". Similarly, `MergedTree` no longer
has an `id()` method, since tree IDs won't fully identify a `MergedTree`
once it contains additional metadata.

42a2a2dd95 repo: store commit predecessors in Operation object
There are two major goals:
1. garbage-collect predecessor commits referenced by immutable commits.
2. show operations alongside predecessors in "jj evolog".

The predecessors field will be removed from the Commit object. Maybe we can
also remove (writer side of) the extras table from GitBackend.

"jj evolog" will traverse the operation history to build an evolution
graph. This will be slower than the current implementation, but it seems
tolerable for mid-size repository stored in a local disk.

(when the page cache is warm)
    % time jj op log -T'"."' --no-graph | wc -c
    50459
    jj op log -T'"."' --no-graph 0.12s user 0.31s system 103% cpu 0.418 total

Suppose we're interested in recent modifications, the traversal can often be
terminate early. I also have an idea for indexing originating operations.
https://github.com/jj-vcs/jj/pull/6405

For old operations which didn't record predecessors, "jj evolog" will fall back
to commit.predecessor_ids(). That's why commit_predecessors is Option<_>.

e66c545438 view: replace WorkspaceId by string-like newtypes
I think this makes more sense because WorkspaceId is currently a human-readable
name. In error/status messages, workspace names are now printed in revset
syntax.

New WorkspaceId types do not implement Default. It would be weird if string-like
type had non-empty Default::default(). The DEFAULT constant is provided instead.

UserSettings::get_*() will be changed to look up a merged value from

Not all tests are ported to ConfigLayer::parse() because it seemed a bit odd
to format!() a TOML document and parse it to build a table of configuration
variables.

4fb7dba73d repo: remove repo_path from ReadonlyRepo and RepoLoader
When loading repos on a server, there is no repo path. We currently
use a placeholder at Google. This patch will let us not do that.

I think we can remove the paths from `Workspace` too, but I'll leave
that for later, if at all.

8d090628c3 transaction: rename mut_repo() to idiomatic repo_mut()
We had both `repo()` and `mut_repo()` on `Transaction` and I think it
was easy to get confused and think that the former returned a
`&ReadonlyRepo` but both of them actually return a reference to
`MutableRepo` (the latter obviously returns a mutable reference). I
hope that renaming to the more idiomatic `repo_mut()` will help
clarify.

We could instead have renamed them to `mut_repo()` and
`mut_repo_mut()` but that seemed unnecessarily long. It would better
match the `mut_repo` variables we typically use, though.

One less git2 API use in CLI.

26581750fe store: add a empty_merged_tree_id() helper
Many (most?) callers of `Store::empty_tree_id()` really want a
`MergedTreeId`, so let's create a helper for that. It returns the
`Legacy` variant, which is what all current callers used. That should
be all we need since the two variants compare equal these days, and
since trees built based on the legacy variant can get promoted to the
new variant on write if the config is enabled.

aac5b7aa25 cargo: rename crates from jujutsu/jujutsu-lib to jj-cli/jj-lib
Almost everyone calls the project "jj", and there seeems to be
consensus that we should rename the crates. I originally wanted the
crates to be called `jj` and `jj-lib`, but `jj` was already
taken. `jj-cli` is probably at least as good for it anyway.

Once we've published a 0.8.0 under the new names, we'll release 0.7.1
versions under the old names with pointers to the new crates names.

e7419e76a1 backend: replace git_repo() by as_any()
This has several advantages:

 * Makes it possible to downcast to non-Git custom backends (might be
useful at Google, but we haven't needed it yet)

 * Lets us access more specific functionality on the `GitBackend`,
making it possible to access the `git2::Repository` without
   creating a copy of it.

 * Removes the dependency on Git from the backend

f1d7bbe508 testutils: create a function for writing a random commit to MutableRepo
We already have `create_random_commit()`, which returns a
`CommitBuilder`. Most callers directly write that to a
`MutableRepo`. That currently returns a `Commit`, but I'm about to
make it propagate errors from the backend. That would add an
`unwrap()` to this sequence, making it longer. Let's create a simple
helper for these callers to simplify this common pattern.

49b2f3b6ca commit_builder: keep MutableRepo reference
When you're done with the `CommitBuilder`, you're going to have to
call `write_to_repo()`, passing it a mutable `MutableRepo`
reference. It's a bit simpler to pass that reference when we create
the `CommitBuilder` instead, so that's what this patch does.

A drawback of passing in the mutable reference when we create the
builder is that we can't have multiple unfinished `CommitBuilder`
instance live at the same time. We don't have any such use cases yet,
and it's not hard to work around them, so I think this change is worth
it.

9502d84872 operations: make hostname and username configurable
We currently get the hostname and username from the `whoami` crate. We
do that in lib crate, without giving the caller a way to override
them. That seems wrong since it might be used in a server and
performing operations on behalf of some other user. This commit makes
the hostname and username configurable, so the calling crate can pass
them in. If they have not been passed in, we still default to the
values from the `whoami` crate.

eb89f6b6ca tests: consistently import create_random_tree()
These calls often appear in expressions long enough that not having to

ea5aa0a96d cleanup: replace some PathBuf args by &Path
In many of these places, we don't need an owned value, so using a

doubt it will have any noticeable impact on performance (I think these
are all once-per-repo paths); it's just a little simpler this way.

0108673087 backend: let each backend handle root commit on write
This moves the logic for handling the root commit when writing commits
from `CommitBuilder` into the individual backends. It always bothered
me a bit that the `commit::Commit` wrapper had a different idea of the
number of parents than the wrapped `backend::Commit` had.

With this change, the `LocalBackend` will now write the root commit in
the list of parents if it's there in the argument to
`write_commit()`. Note that root commit itself won't be written. The
main argument for not writing it is that we can then keep the fake
all-zeros hash for it. One argument for writing it, if we were to do
so, is that it would make the set of written objects consistent, so
any future processing of them (such as GC) doesn't have to know to
ignore the root commit in the list of parents.

We still treat the two backends the same, so the user won't be allowed
to create merges including the root commit even when using the
`LocalBackend`.
